Song Lyric Sunday – Brush with Fame

I love participating in daily/weekly prompts, and when I found Jim Adam’s Song Lyric Sunday’s weekly activity, I knew this was something to which I could definitely relate to and have fun.  Long story short, I’ve been involved in music all my life, from church choirs to schools choirs, and ultimately to being a part of a local rock-n-band in one of the many Southern California cities where I grew up.  I love music so much, I can’t work in my office unless I have my favorite Spotify playlist wailing!

Anywho, Jim asked for us to find a song from a forgotten band, a “one hit wonder” type of band.  I reached back into the far recesses of my mind, and one of the very first songs I recall was from a San Francisco band named We 5, their one hit wonder being a remake called You Were On My Mind.  The song was originally recorded by Ian & Sylvia, a Canadian country husband and wife act.  We 5 recorded the song in 1965, and it reached #1 on the Cashbox chart, and #3 on the Billboard Hot 100.  With those rankings, it appears We 5 would have made it longer than 2 years, but as most start-up bands go through, We 5 broke up after their second album.  The band I was in didn’t last more than 9 months… *sigh*

We 5 in itself may be a forgotten band, but this song will from time to time always be playing in my mind.

When I woke up this mornin’
You were on my mind
And you were on my mind
I got troubles, whoa-oh
I got worries, whoa-oh
I got wounds to bind

So I went to the corner
Just to ease my pain
Said, just to ease my pain
I got troubles, whoa-oh
I got worries, whoa-oh
I came home again

But I woke up this mornin’
You were on my mind
And you were on my mind
(Yeah) I got troubles, whoa-oh
I got worries, whoa-oh
I got wounds to bind

Hey, I got a feelin’
Down in my shoes
Said a-way down in my shoes
Hey, I got to ramble, whoa-oh
I got to move, whoa-oh
I got to walk away my blues

  1. Welcome to Song Lyric Sunday! It’s always great when someone new joins in – a reward for all the effort Jim puts into the link up. I’d never heard of We 5 so for me they definitely count for the theme! The big hit version of this one here in the UK was by Crispian St. Peters, a slightly slower take on the song:
